Track review of "The End Of Tyranny (Remixed)"
The evocative "The End of Tyranny (Remixed)" could be right out of a film score, and Lastovicka has been compared to the late Jóhann Jóhannsson. The slow-burning instrumental is a beautiful example of Lastovicka's thoughtful, contemporary acoustic music. With an ensemble of piano, violin, cello, french horn, and soprano voice, Lastovicka creates haunting melodies and textures. The instruments' timbres complement each other beautifully while swelling in and out of the arrangement. The colorful video adds to the song's mystique.
On the production side, their upcoming release includes a dream team for Lastovicka. They write, "When I was thinking about who I'd like to remix Fortune Has Turned, I thought about my favorite album, Massive Attack's Blue Lines (Circa Records, 1991). I wondered if I would be able to even get Jeremy Allom, who mixed that album. I did, and it has been an incredible experience working with him and getting to know him." For mastering, they chose GRAMMY-nominated engineer Emily Lazar, for her "early background in creative writing, and her drive to tell the story of an album through her mastering work."
The beautiful, sometimes haunting and dark arrangements on Fortune Has Turned are captivating and worth repeated listening. Fans of Johann Jóhannsson and Max Richter will certainly enjoy the record.
