Gian Paolo Galasi

God respects me when I work, but He loves me when I sing.

About Me

I listen to jazz since 1999. My first jazz album was A Love Supreme. Then I discovered free jazz and the avant garde thanks to some Italian webzines and I was hooked. I started writing about jazz for my blog in 2010 and then for other Italian webzines about musicians who mixed different styles and genres in their works, so I basically listen to every style of music in order to be able do describe the most various type of it. I had the opportunity to interview some well known artists like Peter Brotzmann or Matthew Shipp and to see live Ornette Coleman and Henry Threadgill while I spent some time in London, apart from the local scene which I enjoyed so much. Now I continue writing about music as a matter of passion.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because you don't feel twice the same about it. I was first exposed to jazz thanks to Tom Waits' music. I met Matthew Shipp, Wadada Leo Smith, Peter Brotzmann, Roscoe Mitchell after or before their concerts. The best show I ever attended was Peter Brotzmann at Oslo in 2011. The first jazz record I bought was A Love Supreme by John Coltrane. My advice to new listeners is to listen to music and read about it constantly.
