About Me

A historian of popular music and culture, Michael Owen is a writer, researcher, and archivist. Author of Go Slow: The Life of Julie London, the first full-length biography of the popular singer (”Cry Me a River”) and actress (Emergency!), Owen acts as the Consulting Archivist to the estate of the songwriter Ira Gershwin, and as Managing Editor and feature writer for its newsletter Words Without Music. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the George and Ira Gershwin Critical Editions, for which he is completing a scholarly, annotated edition of Ira Gershwin’s 1928 European travel journal. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and their cat.
